“It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.”
~ Henry David Thoreau
The 6th CHAKRA is not just an ancient symbol, it plays an important role in our everyday life. In our modern world this Chakra manifests as the intention for INSIGHT - “The ability to see the world as it truly is”.
Often called The THIRD EYE, it is associated with imagination and psychic abilities and is related to the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. It is often thought of as the most important meditative chakra and is believed to be the center of knowledge and wisdom.
The 6th CHAKRA Overview covers everything you need to know about its traditional words, symbols, sounds, and representations in nature.

Chakras are often associated with animals that are attributed specific chakra qualities. The 6th CHAKRA is symbolically represented by Black Antelope and its qualities of vision and trust .
Scent JASMINE, VETIVER, PATCHOULI, BASIL
The THIRD EYE relates to the reality that can be logically understood only in bits and pieces. This Chakra functions beyond the realm of the five senses. Relying on intuition requires openness and trust, which implies the use of both sides of the brain (creative vision/reasoning). To receive deep insights from the 6th CHAKRA requires balancing energies of both hemispheres.
It influences us between the ages of 35 and 42, as we mature and develop discernment, discipline and concepts of reality.
BALANCED 6th CHAKRA
The normally functioning 6th CHAKRA activates intellect and facilitates spiritual development. It allows us to see beyond the distractions, understand the truth and not the illusion, the wisdom and not the delusion. When strong and healthy, it is often associated with the ability to "grasp” or “see” the big picture.
A developed 6th CHAKRA allows us to rise above polarity and develop “witness consciousness” where we become capable of detached observation.
UNBALANCED 6th CHAKRA
Unbalanced THIRD EYE manifests in lack of clarity, inability to concentrate, rigid thinking and seeing only what we want to see.
Someone with an under-active 6th CHAKRA is extremely practical, and is likely to be aware of only “5-sensory” material world—what you can see, hear, taste, touch or smell. They have a very rigid thinking pattern, are overly analytical and materialistic and tend to view things in black-and-white ways, rejecting everything spiritual or beyond the usual.
People with overactive 6th CHAKRA often have wild imagination and tend to live in the fantasy world, which makes it difficult for them to relate to others and function in the society.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR 6th CHAKRA IN SHAPE
Some of the most beneficial activities to keep your THIRD EYE CHAKRA healthy is meditation, and scalp and face massages. Spend time with older people you consider “wise”, travel to spiritual places, especially the ones with elevation and expansive vistas (mountains etc).
Eat foods beneficial for the eyes and brain (fatty fish, sweet potatoes, walnuts, whole grains, tomatoes, broccoli, pumpkin seeds), and blue colored berries.
When you are working on the THIRD EYE CHAKRA, it is helpful to ask yourself questions to better understand how yours is doing:
- Do I trust my intuition?
- Can I visualize things easily?
- Is my creativity blocked?
- Am I over-analytical?
- Do I have difficulty concentrating?
To heal and balance Chakras, it helps to use affirmations, or mantras. You might want to use them during meditation, or just repeat throughout your day.
By understanding your energy body, of which Chakras are a major part, you can find out a lot about yourself, and successfully navigate your life understanding others as well.
